Laser hair removal ensures that you no longer have to shave, wax, epilate or use depilatory creams. You can contact us for the most effective way of permanent laser epilation in the face or on the body by means of the Lightsheer Diode laser. When you suffer from unwanted hair growth, this is the treatment for you. It is possible to laser almost the entire body as long as the hairs are dark enough. We have over 15 years of experience in laseren with the Lightsheer diode laser (since 2006) and treat 5 to 6 days a week, 8 hours per day. We also have a lot of experience in treating the darker skin. Permanent facial hair removal is usually fully or partially reimbursed from the supplementary insurance and a referral from a doctor or dermatologist is not necessary.
The reason our laser does work for permanent laser hair removal
Many clinics advertize with 100% painless. They often use the Soprano ICE laser. We’ve worked with the Soprano ICE laser for over 1,5 year. This was very time consuming and above that not painless. For the treatment to be effective we need a lot more energy than recommended. This laser however often gives too little energy, making the treatment painless and faster. As a result it is not possible to get the desired result and more treatments will be needed. In our clinic we treat with the Lightsheer DUET diode laser; this device has two different hand pieces. The vacuum method is also less painful but many times more effective. The Lightsheer diode laser is the only one allowed to use the term ‘permanent hair reduction’ after scientific research by the American Food and Drug Administration.

How does laser hair removal work?
The hair removal laser produces light with very high energy. This energy heats and destroys the hairs and the pigmented cells around the hair root. The laser can only laser hairs that contain enough pigment. It is not possible to laser blond, grey or red hair. This is not possible with any laser because they do not contain enough pigment. Electrical epilation is suitable for this. Brown and black hairs are very suitable to be lasered. the pigment in the hairs become very hot, this heat causes the hair follicle to burn, so that no new hair can grow. The skin itself does not absorb any energy and is completely spared.

During the first intake we will determine whether your skin and hairs are suitable for this treatment and what the expected result may be. There are a few conditions we will discuss with you:
- The hairs may not be plucked, waxed or pulled out during the entire treatment process. This will make the treatment less effective. The hairs need to be clearly visible during the first intake. For the body, a few hairs is enough, about the size of a coin. The area to be treated may be shaved during the entire treatment process.
- Your skin can not be tanned from the sun, sunbeds or a tanning lotion. A laser treatment on tanned skin can cause light or dark spots. After the treatment, it is therefore importent to protect the skin against sunlight for 6 weeks with a sunscreen with a minimum protection factor of 20. Preferably several times a day. This helps to prevent discoloration of the skin. This is of course less necessary when there is little sunlight during the day.
- Some medicines make the skin more sensitive to light, which can cause blisters or scarring. Antibiotica, among others, can cause photosensitivity. It is therefore important to report your medication use.
We ask that you do not apply any camouflage creams on the area to be treated on the day of the treatment. These creams block laser rays, making the treatment less effective. Prior to the treatment the area to be treated needs to be shaved at home. You will get glasses to protect the eyes from the laser light. The Lightsheer Diode has 2 hand pieces. On the face we use the small hand piece (XC). A gel is used to easily glide over the skin. For the body we usually start with the big vacuum hand piece (HS). We will use this hand piece for 4 treatment, followed by 4 treatments using the small hand piece. The use of both hand pieces is essential in order to achieve the best results. Next we choose the right settings, tailored to you skin and hairs. The treatment with the small hand piece feels like "pricks", like a rubber band hitting the skin. With the big vacuum hand piece the skin is vacuumed and you will especially feel heat.
After the treatment the skin may be cooled to get the heat from the skin. The skin may be red and slightly swollen the same day. The days after the treatment you may see some stubble of the hair that has been treated. These will disappear on their own. In between the treatment you may only cut of shave the hairs that come back. After the treatment it is important to protect the skin against sunlight for 6 weeks with a suncreen with a minimum protectionfactor of 30. Preferably several times a day. When the skin is red you may use lycogel; this medical camouflage with SPF30 is available in our clinic and can sometimes be reimbursed by your insurer.
You can expect a strong reduction in hair growth for a very long period. We expect permanent hair reduction between 80 and 95%. If some hair comes back it will be much less, thinner and lighter of color. New hairs can always arise, which would also arise without a laser treatment. Of course we cannot give any guarantees. During the first intake we will inform you about the result you can expect.
There are three growth phases a hair can be in. Only the hairs that are in the early growth phase will be heated enough to be destroyed. The three growth phases are called a hair growth cyclus and lasts about 6 to 12 weeks, depending on the area on the body. It is very important to consistently adhere to the correct interval of treatment in order to treat as many hairs as possible in the correct growth phase so that the treatments are as effective as possible. The number of treatments you need is then an average of 6 to 8. For the back, this is an average of 8 to 10.
The treatment frequency depends on the growth cyclus and varies between 6 to 12 weeks. For the face, armpits and groin area this is once every 6 weeks. For other areas on the body the treatment can take place once every 8 weeks. When lasering a chest or back we recommend once every 10 to 12 weeks.
In general laser hair removal in the face is reimbursed by your health insurer from the supplementary insurance. You can obtain information about this from your own health insurer.
